Our Story

How it all started...

Our church was founded in 1976 and was originally called South Hills Assembly of Reno. Today, we are strategically located in a rapidly growing area of south Reno, along the Geiger Grade. Our church has an informal, welcoming, family feel.  Our leadership structure is pluralistic - three of us share the pastoral load with Jesus as the Chief Shepherd (1 Pet. 5:4). We like it this way and think the New Testament is in agreement.  We have a culture of love, safety, kindness, and honor... Oh, and food. We eat together a lot! Whether it's an outreach barbeque, a holiday potluck, celebrating birthdays, or just a church board meeting, we love to gather around the table, break bread together, and enjoy the blessing of friendship and community.  We sense God's hand moving in our midst and are excited about what He is going to do next.

Expanding the vision...

Hungry families need help. The Dimensions food pantry ministry at Valley View serves more than 200 families in the community every Sunday morning from 7:00-9:00 a.m., rain, snow, or shine.  In the fall, we help local families with back-to-school supplies for their kids, and in the winter, we collect and distribute winter coats, hats, scarves, gloves, socks, and boots.  We like to be "salt and light" in places where the gospel of Christ is not always expected, such as supporting outreach teams who minister to the participants at Burning Man, Street Vibrations, and the Reno-Sparks Gospel Mission.

Where we are headed...

Valley View Christian Fellowship is partnering with many other churches in the area to produce and execute a city-wide evangelism, outreach, and service event in the summer or fall of 2025 in conjunction with Luis Palau Ministries and Cityfest. Thousand of volunteers will be needed and Valley View is joining the work.  Other upcoming church events include summer Vacation Bible School for kids, women's and men's conferences, (and maybe a church campout this year!)
